I Started Meditating For 15 Minutes A Day And...

The second I start talking about meditation (don't even get me started on chakras), my sisters call me Gandhi, my mom's ears shut off, and my dad asks me if I smoke too much pot. So thankfully, I have an outlet to let the world know about my greatest discovery yet!

Meditation: To engage in mental exercise (such as concentration on one's breathing or repetition of a mantra) for the purpose of reaching a heightened level of spiritual awareness. 

Meditation To Me: Finding stillness. Silence. Taking my day back. Realizing that everything is okay. Moving forward.

It has been exactly one month since I started meditating every single day for 15 minutes. A couple of key changes have occurred in my life in effect to that. 

I've Learned About Chakras

I had a basic understanding of chakras through my yoga practice over the past couple of years. But, after realizing that I need meditation in my life, I've delved deeper into the benefits of opening and healing your chakras.

Opening your chakras rejuvenates your mind, your body, your inspiration! I am more conscious about where I'm devoting my energy and I am becoming more aware of what I need to work on to be lighter. I think I'm able to absorb more, to analyze words better, to breathe before reacting. 

I am almost positive that the happiest people are the spiritual ones. The ones who believe in miracles and have hope, constantly trying to find the light in every single thing on this planet. I'm talking about the people who say that the trees are beautiful, the people who talk about butterflies, the people who make you stop and think about what's beyond this life of ours. Knowing that we are not confined to our physical bodies is empowering, freeing, and provides a different mindset and set of eyes.

I Physically Open My Heart Everyday 

15 minutes in this heart-opening position allows for a different blood flow. "The heart chakra is all about connecting and relating. The emphasis here is on love, giving and receiving, and how open we are in relationships. Love is the energy that helps transfigure emotions and experiences. It’s an essential element in any relationship, whether it’s is with others or oneself. Love experienced through the fourth chakra is not just about romance, but about going beyond the limitations of the ego and personal preoccupations to open up more fully to compassion and acceptance of all that is, as it is. When we live from our heart and our heart energy is opened and balanced, we can see clearly and position ourselves in any situation, no matter how challenging it is, with discernment and compassion," - info. This is everything that matters to me and I will continue to focus on heart-openers forever.

If we treated our body as seven chakras, as a spiritual temple, as a miraculous grouping of cells - we would treat each other differently. We would see people as what we really are - blood-filled miracles: surviving, morphing, breathing, healing, loving, human-making blood-filled miracles. And we'd try to understand and appreciate each other's talents and skills and weird habits and minds and energy's.

My Mind Is In A Better Place

I am in control now. My mind does not own me. I am able to calmly silence certain thoughts and have time to formulate a reaction. Exercising your mind is just as important, if not even more important, as exercising your body - and it's way harder. 

My Back Doesn't Hurt Anymore

I might sound like an 85-year-old lady, but working at a desk all day could actually take a toll on your back - and it did for me! I use two foam blocks when I meditate. I lay right next to my bed, on a small carpet on the floor. I set up the block in a shape of a T. It is a COMPLETE reverse of your daily positioning! It inverts your spine and allows your neck to relax - allowing you to completely surrender to the position.

Silence Doesn't Scare Me Anymore

Turning my ears off and letting my brain heal itself has become vital. Silence can often lead me to think of EVERYTHING I could ever possibly think of. I really have to try hard to calm my mind - and I'm getting better at it!

I Sleep Better

I don't feel restless anymore. I feel as if blood has been pumped to all corners of my body. I feel ready for sleep. It's a good feeling.

Energy needs direction. Direction takes practice. Practice is always up to you. You are in control of your mind, your life, your happiness - always!
